ADCOP, commissioned in 2012, helps to reduce pressure on Abu Dhabi’s existing oil terminals -- Jebel Dhanna and Al Ruwais ports -- while minimizing shipping congestion through the Strait of Hormuz, thus saving insurance costs and reducing haulers’ journey time.
The deep-water coast of Fujairah allows entry of large vessels (VLCCs), enhancing efficiencies and operational flexibility.
The 48” diameter onshore pipeline is designed to transport 1.5 million barrels per day of crude oil – around half of the UAE’s production.
It stretches about 400 km from Habshan oil fields in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, through the deserts and mountains of the Emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, to the Emirate of Fujairah on the east coast of UAE.
The capacity of ADCOP can be increased to 1.8 million per day using a special drag-reducing agent. The total project encompasses pumping stations, a main oil terminal with a storage capacity of 8 million barrels (expandable to 12 million barrels) and offshore loading facilities (three single-point moorings) at Fujairah.
